Jeddah Islamic Port. Bulk Handling Terminal Ajwa Port Services commenced operation in Nov. 1997 when it was awarded a 10 year lease to operate and manage the Bulk Handling Terminal in Jeddah Islamic Port.
3000 tons per day was the maximum discharge per vessel for the Terminal before Ajwa took over but after investing in new and fast discharging equipment and linking the terminal to the companys silo facility the discharge rate has increased to over 16,000 tons per vessel per day. Over 12 million tons of different types of grain handled through the terminal in the last 4 years of operation.
Yanbu Commercial Port
In March 1999 Ajwa Port Services was awarded the contract of operating and managing the Yanbu Commercial Port. Although this port has played a key role in the development of the nearby Industrial Estate but since the mid 80s it was used mainly for the import of bulk grain and an insignificant volume of General Cargo.
In an effort to increase the efficiency in handling, Ajwa, up on taking over the port has immediately set out to up grade the old equipment and purchase new gear which includes a multipurpose 280E Gottwald Harbour Crane.
Professional and well-trained personnel were recruited and with innovative marketing the volume of cargo handled through the port has risen by an outstanding 300% and rising. Over 4 million tons of different types of cargo were handled through the port in just 2 years. |
