In March 1999 Ajwa Port Services was awarded the contract of operating and managing the Yanbu Commercial Port. Although this port has played a key role in the development of the nearby Industrial Estate but since the mid 80's it was used mainly for the import of bulk grain and an insignificant volume of General Cargo. In an effort to increase the efficiency in handling, Ajwa, up on taking over the port has immediately set out to up grade the old equipment and purchase new gear which includes a multipurpose 280E Gottwald Harbour Crane. Professional and well-trained personnel were recruited and with innovative marketing the volume of cargo handled through the port has risen by an outstanding 300% and rising. Over 4 million tons of different types of cargo were handled through the port in just two years.
